Located in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Magdalen are islands connected by sand dunes, 215 kms from the Gaspé Peninsula, 105 km from Prince Edward Island and 95 km from Cape Breton Nova Scotia. The sea can be seen from virtually any point on the Magdalen Islands.

Amherst the archipelago largest island, inhabited by french acadians, it's around the scenic site of La Grave that takes place the summer festival with several events among which the famous sand castle contest.
Entry Island small and lonely island inhabited by an english speaking community of about 50 souls from Scotish origins, its wild landscape, reminding the Highlands, is to be overlooked from Big Hill the highest 'mount' in the archipelago.
Grosse Île also populated by an english speaking community, from its underground is extracted salt which is the 2nd most important salt mine in Canada.
Grand Entry island sacred Quebec Capital of Lobster in 1994, inhabited mainly by french and english speaking fishermen, hosting also a holiday center and craft industry.
House Harbour aside the airport, the island is famous for its numerous coloured houses revealed along a scenic road.
Pointe aux Loups the archipelago smallest island counting about 50 households of french speaking fishermen. The wolves (loups) mentioned are the seals (loups marins) that come every years on the icefield skirting the islands during march.
Grindstone shelters the administration center, the commercial port, the hospital, the secondary school and most commerces. The population there is the most important in the islands. Don't miss the magnificent wooden church of La Vernière, listed a historical patrimony of Québec, it's said it has been built from the wood of a shipwrecked cargo in 1872. Myth or legend nethertheless this church on its hill has standed the fury of storms for over a century and it is the symbol of the proud and brave soul of the Magdalen people.
